Changes
Today was a good day.
I was pacing around as I talked on the phone, and I came across my wedding ring hanging on an ornate candelabra. I had put it there a couple of months ago when I was at my weakest health and lightest weight, after it actually fell off my finger. Before, it had always been a chore to get it off. That was a low point for me; realizing that I had wasted away that much was hard to take. I put it on the candelabra so I would know where to find it.
Today I put it on my finger and it stayed put, and would require real effort if I wanted to take it off again.
It's been hard to accurately gauge my weight. I weigh myself every day when I get up, but it often fluctuates daily by several pounds so I try and look at weekly trends.
I have now passed the ring test and am clearly gaining weight. So my goal is to continue to work on strengthening my body, staying healthy...and gain some more weight.

I heard you were at the high school Friday. Unfortunately, I couldn't come to where you were cause I didn't find out that you were there until you had left. I hope to stop by and see you soon.
ReplyDelete<3,

David!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since we checked you blog and we see that we've been remiss. Our hearts are with you, our thoughts are with you. You've had an extraordinary time of it. God, you're so strong.
I've been thinking about your 6% chance. Tonight we made dinner for a friend and his wife. He's in his late thirties. Two weeks ago, his heart stopped in the middle of the night. His wife performed CPR for 3 minutes until paramedics arrived. His heart wasn't re-started until they reached the hospital, and she was told there was only a 6% chance that he would survive without serious brain damage. Tonight, only two weeks later, he is himself, completely recovered (although a pacemaker is to be implanted).
So, David, you and he are members of the 6% club. the world is better for it.
Much, much love,
Anne and Paul

David - Know that I check in on your blog and think of you often.
ReplyDeleteMy father lost a lot of weight after he had surgery for esophageal cancer the summer before last. He tried to gain before the surgery as he knew he'd lose a lot. It's been very hard as he has several food sensitivities; he also has to eat 6+ small meals a day, slowly due to his new interior configuration and can get dumping syndrome. At his lowest, he was around 135, which was hard for all, and now he is well above 150 and aiming for 160. Eyes on the prize and so happy to hear the news.
P.S. Interestingly, I think I may in fact know the 6%-er mentioned above. You are all in good company :)and indeed, the world is so much the better.
With my very best wishes, Leslie
Thinking of you always as the healthy albeit thinner Dave that we've known -- and wishing you a summer of recovery, strength, and energy. We look forward to seeing you at your usual CCHS post come September. You've always had vim and vigah!
ReplyDeleteHail to you, dear Dave and Monika!

Kind and loving people like you should be embraced and supported. Keep going, buddy. I pray the enjoyment of life reaches through all of this physical stuff and heartens you every day.

Dear Dave,
ReplyDeleteJust spent some time reviewing your blog and learning how you've been doing. I was in PTown last week and thought of your annual show there.
Love to you and your family. Keep gaining strength. September and teaching are right around the corner.

Hi David and Monika,
ReplyDeleteIt seems that you've been fighting the good fight and continuing to triumph.
My friends are amazed that a person can live without a pancreas altogether..thanks to technology and modern medicine. I think they keep us alive so we can pay the bills for all their stuff...For me its insulin, pump, enzymes, glucose monitors, test strips...endless...but still here. Biking, hiking, water skiing...with my son and daughter. What price can you put on THAT?
Take came ol' roomy

I hope you are both doing well once again... Tom Kemp
